Arrive in Ulaanbaatar. On this very first day of the tour in Mongolia, you are enjoying a full day of city tour. First visit to Sukhbaatar square, which is the heart of the city, where you will see monuments dedicated to the Mongol empire from the 13th century and its great khan including Chinggis Khaan. Then we move on to visit Gandan Monastery, the largest and most important Buddhist temple in the country. In the afternoon visit to National History Museum and Zaisan hill. Evening performance of Folk Song and Dance Ensemble.

Early morning drive to the Karakorum about 390 km. (7-9 hours) on the way stop on the sand dune stretched more than 80 km across the central Mongolian mountain steppe. Arrive at the Karakorum and accommodate at ger camp. Tour of the first Buddhist monastery Erdenezuu, built on the ruins of Karakorum in 1586 by order of Abtai Sain Khan. The monastery preserves works of the Mongolian artisans, painters, sculptors, embroidery, and artisans of the 17-19 centuries. Overnight in Mongolian ger camp.

With packed lunch on the way, we are traveling across the central Mongolian green plateau and arrive at a ger camp settled on the shore of the beautiful lake of Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur. Surrounded by extinct volcanoes, Terhiin Tsagaan is one of the most beautiful lakes in Mongolia. Being elevated at an altitude of 2,060 meters, the lake occupies an area of over 300 square kilometers. This astonishingly beautiful clear water lake is renowned for its fish and birdlife. Pike is found in plenty and bird species including ruddy shelduck and great cormorant are common. The dead volcano of Khorgo stands on the Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur Lake. There is a huge volcanic crater, about 200 meters wide and 100 meters deep. A large solidified lava formation on the southern slope of Khorgo called “Basalt Ger” En route we are visiting mysterious Taikhar Rock, the central Mongolian pretty green town of Tsetserleg and Khorgo dead volcano sight.

Today we are driving heading northwards to Khuvsgul Lake. Traveling across the mountain steppe zone in the northern tip of the Khangai mountain range, we will settle in the picturesque sight of Zuun Nuur Lake, halfway between Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur Lake and Khuvsgul Lake for the night. Overnight at ger camp.

Via Murun town, the center of Khuvsgul province, we are arriving at the Shore of Khuvsgul Lake today. After arriving in Murun, we are having an excursion to Uushgiin uvur ancient site with a rich collection of ancient deer stones and tombstones. There are 14 beautifully carved deer stones in the same area. Continue driving to Khusvgul lake and arrive at ger camp by the lake. After settling down in a ger camp conveniently located on the western shore of the lake, we enjoy relaxing time in the refreshing settings of the beautiful lake.

Enjoy experiencing the lake and exploring the surrounding area by ourselves. Known as the “dark blue pearl” of Mongolia, Lake Khuvsgul is one of the country’s largest lakes and it features one of the most spectacular areas of the country. With 136 kilometers in length and 36 kilometers wide stretching from north to south, Khuvsgul is the 14th largest fresh-water lake in the world by volume and its 380 cubic kilometers of water make up over 1% of the world’s freshwater. The lake is elevated at 1,645 meters above sea level and, deepest; the lake is 262 meters from its surface to the bottom. Khuvsgul shares many similarities in origin, flora, and fauna with larger Russia’s Baikal Lake, which lies 200 kilometers to the east and is connected to Khuvsgul by Egiin River. About a hundred rivers and streams pour into Khuvsgul Lake, but only the Egiin River exits the lake. In the afternoon, we are also visiting a reindeer settlement. Optional activities include hiking, horse riding, or rafting along the shore of the lake. Overnight in gers at the shore of Khuvsgul lake.

Today we are driving back to the south in the direction of Ulaanbaatar via Murun town. In the evening, we are arriving on the bank Selenge River, which is the largest river in Mongolia. Overnight in a ger camp.

Going across Selenge River, we are visiting Urantogoo extinct volcano area for a lunch stop. Then we drive to Amarbayasgalant monastery, via Erdenet city, which is the third-largest city of Mongolia. This beautiful monastery was built in 1717-1936 by the decree of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar, a prominent religious leader and artist, who was proclaimed as the first reincarnation of Bogd Zavzandamba by Dalai Lama.

Driving for about 5-6 hours on a paved road, we are arriving back in Ulaanbaatar. Enjoy a relaxing time in the afternoon. Overnight in a hotel.
