Snow Leopard tour at Baitag Bogd Mountain

Fly to Khovd town, the center of western Mongolian Khovd province. After lunch in the town, drive for 380 km to Bulgan country across the Altai Mountain range. Then proceed to the legendary Baitag Bogd Mountain located on the Mongolian-Chinese border. Set up camping after arriving there in the late afternoon. We will penetrate the border control area with special permission from the Border Troops Authority of Mongolia. Overnight camping on the bank of the famous Buduun Khargait river, where 1948 border struggle between Mongolian and Chinese Kuomintang forces.

After breakfast at the camp, we start our wildlife expedition. All equipment and today’s lunch are packed and taken on our day-long horseback tour. Today we ascend from the eastern side of Altan Ovoo, the highest peak of the Baitag mountains. In the morning we observe the snow leopard habitat from the Urd nurse. We will have chances to see other wildlife including Mongolian ibex and famous Argali sheep. In the evening, glass to Khargaitai salaa canyon. Back to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Another full day of wildlife viewing and photo safari with packed lunch. Today we are observing around Uhriin Tolgoi (Cow head), another site with a lot of chances to see snow leopards and other wildlife. Descent through Khargaitai salaa and come back to our camp at Buduun Khargait valley in the evening for dinner and overnight.

The third day of wildlife viewing tour. Today we change our camping site, the camp equipment, and gears will be taken to Tsagaan Burgas valley by our local assistants. We ride south along the eastern ridge of Baitag Bogd Mountain. Ascend to a plateau called 87th height. Wildlife viewing at Baga Ulaan salaa and Ikh Ulaan salaa canyons. Dinner and overnight at our camp at Tsagaan Burgas valley.

The last day of wildlife viewing. We spend the whole day at the height of Gants mod area. This is another good area for snow leopard viewing. There are many cases of snow leopards catching domestic animals in this area. In the evening observe at the end of Tsagaan Burgas valley and descend through the valley to our camp for dinner and overnight. Conclusion to our great expedition in the legendary and wildlife-rich Baitag Bogd Mountain and farewell party in the night.

In the morning we stop at monuments dedicated to Three heroes who died here during the 1948 border struggle, fighting against over 100 Guomindang troops. Then drive to Gurvan Khuukhed Mountain (Three sisters mountains) with interesting rock formations, as if three huge rocks erected on the ground. Arrive in Bulgan country. Dinner and overnight in a local hotel.

Drive to Khovd town through picturesque Bodonchiin havtsal canyon. A number of beautiful spots on the way pass over Ulaan davaa, one of the highest mountain passes in the country. In the afternoon arrive at the famous Gurvan senkher cave, have lunch by the cave. Explore two chambers of the famous cave, with a number of rock inscriptions by prehistoric humans dating back to 15,000 years. Arrive in Khovd town in the evening. Overnight in a hotel. 

Fly to Ulaanbaatar and transfer to Hustai park
